Application : Methyl tert-butyl ether is currently a replacement for tetraethyl lead.

It is mainly used as a blending agent for high-octane gasoline in refineries. It can also be used as a solvent for paraffin, oil, perfume, alkaloid, resin, rubber, and organic synthesis reagent. Flammable and volatile, there is a danger of explosion in case of fire and heat.

MTBE is also an important raw material for the preparation of polymer grade isobutylene. Also used in the production of methacrolein and methacrylic acid.

As an octane improver for gasoline, MTBE can not only increase the oxygen content of gasoline, but also promote clean combustion and reduce pollution emissions from harmful substances in automobiles.
